The sows on our farm are a motley crew; generally crosses of Landrace, Duroc, and Large Black breeds. They have long hair to help protect them from the sun and are bred for mothering traits and foraging ability. From a young age our pasture fed pigs are fed a grain ration, nutritionally formulated for our own farming system. Our pigs always live outside and graze on pastures and native grasses in line with our philosophy for a slower growing animal; this also means they take longer to reach slaughter weight. As a result our pork products are; smaller in portion size when compared to factory farmed pork, much more flavoursome, and have slightly more fat coverage (good crackling!).
